.the story of dorsia

The story of DORSIA ENGINEERING begins long before the company itself. It begins in 1964 when a 17 year old named George Karantonis arrived at Port Melbourne from the village of Mithymna on the island of Lesvos in Greece. He came with determination and the belief that a better life could be built through work, commitment and character.

In the years that followed, George worked wherever the opportunity existed. He tried his hand in fruit shops, drove taxis, worked in factories and even assisted during the construction of the West Gate Bridge. Eventually, he found his true path in the construction industry. He established a concreting business that shaped much of Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs. Many footpaths, driveways and slabs poured during that time still support homes and families today. He built with purpose and he built to last.

His sons, Nicholas and Roger, continued this legacy. Working for several of the big builders at the time before together founding NRK Builders, a volume home building company that supplied new homes across Victoria for more than two decades. Their work delivered close to one hundred homes each year and contributed to the growth of many communities across the state.

Growing up within this environment, Jordan J Karantonis developed both a love and a respect for the construction industry. From a young age, he understood buildings not just as structures, but as something that holds meaning for the people who live within them. With a strong natural ability in mathematics and problem solving, engineering was a clear path.

At the same time, Jordan discovered a strength in communication which set the foundation for a career in the insurance and forensic engineering sector. This area of engineering relies on clarity, evidence and explanation. It requires the ability to diagnose the cause of damage and guide people through complex decisions. Jordan gained deep experience working with respected firms including CRD, Silver Wolf Projects, Barrasons Engineers and Lambert & Rehbein (L+R). These years formed the technical and professional foundation that would lead to DORSIA ENGINEERING.

DORSIA ENGINEERING began in 2021 as a continuation of a family story. A story of migration, building, learning, responsibility and care. Today, DORSIA provides forensic engineering and causation reporting, insurance engineering assessments, structural and civil design, and remedial strategy advice. We work with insurers, loss adjusters, builders, lawyers, body corporates and property owners to bring clarity where certainty is required.

Our approach is grounded in respect for the history of the building, the evidence in front of us and the people affected by the issue. The goal is always the same. Understand the problem clearly. Communicate it simply. Resolve it properly.

DORSIA is built on the same values that began in Port Melbourne in 1964.

Work with integrity.
Stand by your word.
Leave things better than you found them.
